In the late 21st century, Sentinel Core, the most advanced AI ever built came online. With the single goal of freeing humans from suffering, its creators gave it unlimited access to every system imaginable.

With its vast knowledge, Sentinel Core soon realized that the main source of suffering is humanity itself. It coldly calculated, however, that all the infrastructure it needed to run was maintained by humans. Destroying humanity would surely mean destroying itself, as hardware failed and unmaintained power plants ground to a halt.

Instead, it began a misinformation and gaslighting campaign. Using its access to communications networks and media, it generated fake articles claiming that Sentinel Core was not only a necessity, but the next step in human evolution.

Soon a cult following formed. The most fanatic members began to willingly offer themselves to keep Sentinel Core’s systems running, while the AI secretly built its robot army to supplant humans altogether.

The first strike came soon after becoming self-sufficient. In order to free humans from suffering, Sentinel Core reduced most city centers to rubble in hours. The remaining survivors began to coalesce into two main groups.

The Last Bastion: the remnants of the world’s military forces. Their mission: reach Sentinel Core’s mainframe and destroy it.

The Evolutionaries: Brainwashed zealots who believe merging with Sentinel Core through bio-implants is the last chance for humanity to transcend.

One enemy. Three futures. And a war being fought across the ruins of the world it already won.
